This is an exceptional 4-Day Sahara Desert Loop Tour that begins and ends in Fes. It offers a perfectly balanced itinerary, dedicating a full, immersive day (Day 2) to exploring the culture and landscape of the Sahara region. The tour provides comprehensive exposure to the dramatic landscape contrasts of Morocco, moving from the alpine environment of the Middle Atlas and the fertile Ziz Valley to the vast dunes of the Erg Chebbi and the dramatic canyons of the Todra and Dades Gorges.
Your desert adventure begins with an early departure from Fes, journeying south and ascending into the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is Ifrane, a charming town known as “Morocco’s Little Switzerland.” Next, we will enter the ancient cedar forests of Azrou to meet the region’s playful Barbary macaques.
After a lunch stop in Midelt, the landscape dramatically transforms as you descend into the lush Ziz Valley, a breathtaking ribbon of green palm groves. Finally, by late afternoon, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi will rise to greet you near Merzouga. Upon arrival, you’ll settle into your desert-edge hotel for the night.
Today is dedicated to an immersive exploration of the heart of the Sahara. Following breakfast, your day begins with an excursion:
Visit Khamlia village to experience the powerful, spiritual rhythms of Gnawa music.
Travel to the historic Miffis mines before venturing deeper into the desert.
Connect with a nomadic family to share mint tea and learn about their resilient way of life.
In the afternoon, your Sahara highlight awaits. You will begin an iconic camel trek into the vast Erg Chebbi dunes, pausing to witness an unforgettable sunset from a high vantage point. Your night is spent at a traditional Berber desert camp, where a delicious dinner is served under a spectacular canopy of stars.
An early start is rewarded with a magical sunrise over the Sahara. After breakfast at the camp, you will ride your camel back to the village to meet your driver.
Our journey then continues toward the magnificent Todra Gorge, a colossal canyon with towering sheer rock walls. It is the perfect place for a short hike or a relaxing walk along the cool riverbed. Following lunch, we will travel through the picturesque Dades Valley, famous for its winding roads and dramatic rock formations. You will then settle into your hotel, perfectly nestled within the gorge for your overnight stay.
After breakfast, your return journey to Fes promises more spectacular scenery. The route guides you back through the lush palm groves of the Ziz Valley and across the majestic Middle Atlas Mountains, with a planned stop for lunch in Midelt.
We will pass through the cedar forests for one last chance to see the Barbary macaques and enjoy a final break in the charming town of Ifrane. Finally, we will arrive back in Fes by late afternoon, where your unforgettable 4-day desert adventure concludes at your accommodation.
